CHATGPT

My go-to for general-purpose thinking for drafting, brainstorming, ideation and validating ideas before they go any further.

ResearchWritingThinking partner

What it is

ChatGPT has been the the tool I’ve reached for over the last 2 years when I need more general help, from putting structure into my thinking, helping consolidate my writing through to turning rough ideas into something clearer.

What I use it for

Everything. Drafting outlines, challenging my perspective, review copy I have written and work through communication, strategy development and wider market research. It’s always open, always to hand from simple questions to deep research.

Where it works well

It’s strongest used as a partner, acting as a capable all-rounder for general all-purpose tasks without requiring any setup. It works right out to the box. The other benefit is has all my context from over 2 years, meaning it knows how I think and write.

Drawbacks or limits

It needs pushing to really challenge what you have produced and it still needs judgement, editing and time to develop a sense of what good looks like. This applies to any general purpose LLM, always ensure you’re reviewing the output - especially if it has your name on it.

Who should use it

Good for product people, leaders and generalists who want a flexible tool that can support a wide range of day-to-day work without any overheads. Think of it as your sidekick, always there, capable while being a generalist. Complex tasks require other tools and approaches.

My verdict

This is the tool I use most often because it is broad, adaptable and consistently useful across both strategic and practical work. I am finding my usage go beyond the chat interface into Codex to extract more value and benefit from what the model can deliver. See it as a maturity model, basic LLM chat is where you start and then as your use cases change, how you use LLMs and the harnesses that sit around it need to evolve to get the best solution.
